Brandywine Blue Fund

Fund Focus and Strategy

Friess Brandywine Blue Fund emphasizes large-cap companies. The Fund strives to isolate larger companies with above-average earnings growth prospects relative to their peers. While most companies in the portfolio are well known, the portfolio’s composition reflects a focus on companies fueling growth by capturing market share rather than big-name companies with more limited growth potential.

Portfolio characteristics such as sector weightings reflect the Friess team’s efforts to isolate robust earnings growth on the individual-company level. We make no effort to mirror market indexes, typically resulting in a portfolio with lower correlation to large-cap benchmarks. Friess Brandywine Blue Fund aims to beat benchmarks, not mimic them.

Our search for great larger companies includes research involving companies of all sizes. We conduct all-cap research, meaning that our work on a large-cap company is also likely to include interviews with its mid-cap supplier and small-cap vendor. We believe taking a broader view that spans a company’s complete “food chain” positions us to uncover trends that point to opportunity or foreshadow trouble before they become obvious to managers whose focus is narrower.
