Management Team

Today’s Friess Associates is the product of its current leadership’s vision. The firm’s management team in 2013 steered Friess Associates back to its roots as a private company. The members of that team now lead a company that is 100% employee-owned, helping solidify a research-driven culture marked by an overriding commitment to client service.

  • Joe Fields

    Managing Partner

    Joe serves as a key liaison between Friess Associates and the clients the firm serves. He also leads the firm as a member of the management team. He joined Friess Associates in 1999. Joe was previously a principal partner at Alex. Brown Capital, where he was a member of the operating and investment policy committees. Prior to that, Joe was managing director within Salomon Smith Barney's asset management group.

    Joe earned a BS from Roanoke College, an MBA from Tulane University and the Certified Public Accountant designation.

  • Scott Gates

    Scott leads the Friess Associates research effort. He guides the quality of research by ensuring that individual holdings conform to our investment criteria. Scott reserves final say regarding the composition of the portfolios we manage. He joined Friess Associates in 2003. In earlier parts of an investment career that began in 1988, Scott was a senior analyst and portfolio manager for Gardner Lewis Asset Management, and a trader in the foreign exchange departments of Tague Securities/Societe General and Butler Harlow LLC.

    Scott earned a BA from Wake Forest University and an MBA from Emory University.

  • Gordon Kaiser

    Managing Partner

    Gordon serves as a key point person for the clients who invest with Friess Associates. He also leads the firm as a member of the management team. Gordon joined Friess Associates in 1999 after working as the chief investment officer of PNC Bank, Delaware and president of its Del-Vest subsidiary. He oversaw all of PNC's investment policies and strategies in the Delaware market.

    Gordon earned a BA from Lake Forest College and an MBA from the University of Delaware.

  • Dave Marky

    Managing Partner

    Chief Compliance Officer

    Within his leadership responsibilities, Dave maintains a primary focus on compliance and operations. He joined Friess Associates in 2000. Prior to joining the firm, Dave was director of fund accounting and administration for PFPC Inc., the mutual fund servicing subsidiary of PNC Bank. In that role, he led the new business integration team and oversaw the daily operations of 45 mutual funds.

    Dave earned a BS from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
